Mid-afternoon tides mean we have to go back to the river this week, but to mix it up we're launching from Hoe Mill Lock tonight (two locks downstream of Paper Mill, see www.wetndrysup.com/hoe-mill-lock-river-chelmer/ or satnav it to CM9 6RA). Meeting from 6.40pm, we'll launch at 7pm and paddle east downstream and into the breeze for two locks to the confluence of the tidal Chelmer and Blackwater at Beeleigh Lock and back, a 7km loop. The blanket weed hasn't yet surfaced, but be ready for a blizzard of pollen and possibly a few mosquitos in the air at times – that's the price you have to pay for enjoying the countryside this time of year!
