Wilderness Advanced First Aid Certification - WAFA
Hanifl Centre for Outdoor Education in partnership with AERIE Backcountry Medicine, USA is conducting the Wilderness Advanced First Aid in collaboration with Great Hyderabad Adventure Club - GHAC. This course comprises of a 28-hour (WAFA) module and a 4-hour Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) module and is accredited by Wilderness Medicine Society (WMS) and American Heart Association (AHA).
ABOUT WILDERNESS MEDICINE
By definition ‘Wilderness’ in the context of ‘Wilderness Medicine’ means when one is at least an hour away from medical help, which effectively in the Indian scenario applies to almost every place, let alone the remote & wild places. “Wilderness Medicine means standard medical principles provided in a context that requires attention to extended contact time with the patient, environmental extremes, treatment with limited and non-specialised equipment that may require improvisation, and the possible lack of communication.”

Injury/ Illness Identification & Management, including:
Bleeding, Sprains, Shock, Spinal, Head, Chest, Wounds, Fractures, Cold, Heat, Lightning, Altitude, Drowning, Anaphylaxis, Bites, Stings, Medical
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Emergency Response Procedures
Overview:
Integrating classroom instruction with scenario based learning
32 hour curriculum over 4 days
Certification: valid for 2 years, Recertification of WAFA from WMI valid for 2 years
Taught in: English, Hindi

The Hanifl Centre for Outdoor Education and Environmental Study was initially built to extend Woodstock Schools curriculum and to provide a facility and a programme through which students can learn about the Himalaya and develop their skills and knowledge in outdoor education.
