Ashbourne are extremely honoured to be hosting the Provincial Towns Cup on May 8th.
The Provincial Towns cup is the one of the oldest competions in Irish Rugby and many would consider it the Holy Grail of Irish amateur rugby.
Only a lucky few have had the pleasure of lifting this prestigous cup and on May 8th, Enniscorthy and Wicklow will battle it out to see who becomes this years winner.
Ennsicorthy are the defending champions so are looking to win back to back titles while a young Wicklow side will be looking to win the PTC for the very first time in their history. Their last attempt at this stage of the competition was against Tullamore in 2006 where they unfortunately had to settle for runner up.
The curtain raiser to the big event is the Provincial Plate Final at 1pm with Ashbourne taking on Longford. Similar to Enniscorthy, Ashbourne are looking for back to back titles in the Plate. Their opponents Longford are looking to make it 3rd time lucky in this competition after losing 2 finals in 2012 and 1983.
Bank of Ireland took up the sponsorship of Provincial Towns Cup in 2015 and are also planning A Big Family Fun Day for everyone who attends the event and this will be starting at 2pm.
This years half time entertainement will be a Crossbar Challenge where we will pick 20 lucky people on Facebook to show us their kicking skills from the 40m line and see if they can hit the cross bar. Each lucky finalist will get one kick and the first person to complete the challenge will get €500 in cash. The only place to qualify for this will be on Facebook and all lucky finalists (+1 Guest) will get in for free on matchday.
There will be plenty of food stalls and cold beer to keep everyone happy for what is sure to be a fun day for people of all ages.
