Members,
In October 2017, one of RVYC’s paralympians, Jackie Gay, participated in a Leg 13 of the Canada C3 expedition, a
voyage around Canada’s three coastlines (the longest coastline in the world), as part of the Canada 150 celebrations.
Leg 13 started in Prince Rupert where the Polar Prince (an ex-icebreaker) travelled to Haida Gwaii and then the Great Bear Rainforest, finishing in Bella Bella. Jackie was able to experience a once-in-a-lifetime journey through BC’s unparalled natural coastline and connect with local First Nations communities as well as Canadians from across the country. She encountered spirit bears, Haida leaders and was able to visit the World Heritage site at SGang Gwaay (also known as Ninstints), which was a, ‘dream come true.’ ‘As a person with a disability I have broken through many
barriers,’ says Jackie, ‘but visiting Gwaii Haanas was way beyond my resources. C3 changed that and I will be forever grateful for the whole, life-changing experience.’
Jackie would now love to share this voyage with you through photographs, video and stories. ‘As a participant I have a responsibility to share and be part of the greater C3 legacy.’ Come and engage with the landscape, the themes and the bigger picture – be part of the discussion of where Canada could be in another 150 years.
