The sophisticated experimental collective Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones from France opens the bizarre Dark Jazz cabaret and all lovers of DAVID LYNCH movies, artists like KILIMANJARO DARKJAZZ ENSEMBLE or BOHREN UND DER CLUB OF GORE and blue cigarette smoke in dark bars exult.
Having started off with smooth, minimal and instrumental landscapes, the Dale Cooper Quartet nowadays offer a more lively and rich sound. Always based upon improvisation and sound research, the solo parts of their music are now embodied by vocals. In various songs the sheer chants of Zalie Bellacicco, the deep tone of Ronan Mac Erlaine and the crystal-clear voice of Gaëlle Kerrien (Yann Tiersen's singer on his last Mute album) interlaces with the still dark jazz of the band.
Always influenced by classic 50s cool jazz and the more contemporary noise and experimental styles, the Quartet and his guests built a dreamy card castle who swing and grow deeply rooted in fierce strangeness of David Lynch movies.
Witxes is a sonic entity crashing popular music into singular music. This schizophrenic project, feminine, plural, finds its way in the balance between improvisation and passionate sound research. Roaming, roving and raving are giving birth to melodic spaces fed on colourful sound layers, shimmering textures and residual traces of sonic instants in which everyone can find a place.
"beautiful escapism where each note soothes you and shields you off from the sometime cold hard reality that is out there."
Michael, Beats, breaks and big smiles
"The mix of styles is flawless and draws on the relaxing and darker qualities of both jazz and ambient." - Oscar Strik, Evening of Light
