Vancouver nightlife is supported by the presence of several key nights, which have become some of the most familiar names and brands the industry has to offer. A mix of genres and components allows these nights to connect with a wide range of communities, demographics, and ultimately, diversify the music and entertainment scene in the city. Gathering some of the longest-standing promoters and producers in Vancouver, we discuss how the creators of these nights use social media to build their night, strengthen their brand, and simultaneously grow and engage their communities.

Meet the Panelists:

Happy Ending Fridays: Natasha Lands // @cherchezlafemme // Natasha has love for Vancouver's art & culture scene and community. WIthin Vancouver, she's involved in curation, photography and music. She has curated for unique, art-based events such as Night Vision I and II, Emily Carr Grad After Party, Here Is Now, Olio Festival, Jamcouver Hotel Party, Fuse The Grand Ballroom - Vancouver Art Gallery and Chinatown Night Market. Natasha works within Vancouver with many cultural key figures and venues, her current position is curator and head promoter of Fortune Sound Club's Friday evening: Happy Ending Fridays. Natasha also operates indie record label Student Loan, as well as The Something Club, an independent art gallery in east van.

TING: Tank Girl // @tankgyal // Tank Gyal is a Vancouver-born-and-raised DJ and event promoter. She is the creator and resident of Vancouver's longest-running reggae dancehall weekly Ting, which has been rocking every Thursday for over 7 years (formerly at Astoria currently inside Waldorf Tiki Room). She is also the First Lady of Vancouver's notorious Lighta! Sound. Tank Gyal has played shows in places far and wide including Jamaica, Mexico, Switzerland, Miami, Las Vegas, Seattle, Bellingham, Whistler, Victoria, and all over the Lower Mainland and has performed at festivals such as Shambhala, Bass Coast Project, Diversity, Conscious Culture Fest, Car Free Day, and 420 and Cannabis Day Celebrations at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Ice Cream Social: Cam Dales // @camdales, @_icecreamsocial // Cam Dales has been DJing parties in Vancouver for almost ten years. In addition to Ice Cream Social, he does Radio Zero on citr.ca Fridays at 2-3:30, Wild Zero, and Night Train. Ice Cream Social is a 50's and 60's sock hop night in Vancouver. Soul, Rock and Roll, Doo-wop, Bubblegum, Garage, RnB, Psych, Pop, etc. The night started in 2007 doing Monday night parties in the back room at Shine. Since then, Honey, The Waldorf, The Fox and The Biltmore home have hosted the evening. DJs are Cam Dales, Tyler Fedchuk and Trevor Risk, with a rotating cast of special guests. Monday nights are currently looking for a new home, so check them out every third Friday at the Biltmore and special occasions elsewhere. #icecreamsocial

Slow Jam Sundays: Marlon English // @marlonjenglish // @slowjamsundays

No Bollocks Events- Wendy 13 // @wendythirteen // Wendy13 has been booking heavy bands in Vancouver for 15 years at the Columbia, Cobalt, Astoria and Funky Winkerbeans, in additional to promotional work on heavy shows with Fortune Sound Club, The Rickshaw, Perryscope, Union Events and Crownest. For 10 years, she ran a strictly punk/metal venue of Vancouver infamy: The Cobalt, and hosted Scaryoke for 8 years. For the past 5 years, she has been booking punk and metal bands for weekend nights at Funky Winkerbeans.
