The Crystal Ballroom and Mission Theater are extremely proud to host the live broadcast of the Grateful Dead performing their 50-year celebratory concerts in Chicago, dubbed "Fare Thee Well." These being the band's final performances, this piece of musical history should be experienced in a setting to befit the spirit of the event. Well, Northwest Deadheads, we're here for you!
The Crystal Ballroom played host to the Grateful Dead in 1968, supplied the setting for music on one of their live albums, and through the years has staged Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and dozens of artists from the Dead's extended family. So we're delighted to provide the venue for two of these historic nights: July 3 and 5. (The Crystal's little sister venue just blocks away, the historic Mission Theater, will do the honors on July 4.)
We invite all Deadheads to join us at the Crystal Ballroom and Mission Theater for one more run of shows, until the band "bids us goodnight" one last time.
A special note about our Crystal Ballroom presentation: This event is 21 and over, and we will sell a very limited amount of tickets (about half of our normal capacity). We've created this presentation - and set a 1960s-era ticket price as well - in order to provide as ideal a setting as possible for our guests on this special occasion.
The live stream of these historic shows will be presented through a 9000 lumen projector and our line array PA system, while our stage lights will be directed on the dance floor and the room at large. With no barricade, our famous floating dance floor will be wide open for dancing, with tables and chairs set up toward the back of the ballroom for sitting, relaxing and enjoying this time with fellow Deadheads.
About "Fare Thee Well"
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four original members - Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir - will reunite at Chicago's Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. "Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" will occur over three nights on July 3, 4, and 5, 2015, marking the original members' last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Bruce Hornsby (piano). The group will perform two sets of music each night.
(As a prelude to these final shows, the Grateful Dead will also play two shows at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on June 27 and 28.)
